Inspired by April Anue’s “Strange Fruit” quilt, Kathy’s quilt is a collection of 8″ blocks representing daily stitch “meditations” that also represents the victims of violence against people of color or their sexual orientation. It also includes the loss of American icons and the US COVID deaths to date stitched in the sashing.
Kathy designed this quilt for her son who works 10-hour days, picks up three kids from school, and starts dinner before his wife gets home from work. He wanted a quilt that “reflects peace and quiet.”
Roberta’s piece is a Judy Niemeyer design for an intricate paper-pieced quilt that she says drew her “like a moth to a flame.” Although each time she does one, she swears she’ll never do it again, but already has her next Niemeyer quilt picked out!
The GAAQG Executive Board meets online via ZOOM on the 1st Thursday of every month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Members are welcome to attend and can participate fully in the discussions but do not vote.
